Ming Gong
Hi, I’m Ming, a senior at Columbia University studying Computer Engineering. I’m part of the 3-2 combined plan with Bard College at Simon’s Rock, where I studied Physics.
Update: I’m thrilled to share that I will be joining Carnegie Mellon University this fall to pursue a PhD in ECE, advised by Professor Ken Mai. Looking forward!
Research
I’m interested at the intersection of circuit design and low-level systems. My interests include:
- IC Design: Analog and digital integrated circuits
- Hardware Acceleration: Designing custom accelerators for specialized workloads.
- Systems Programming: Building efficient, close-to-metal software
I’m currently a member of the Mobile X Lab under the guidance of Professor Xia Zhou, where I design circuits for wearable devices
Previously, I contributed to research projects in the labs of:
- Professor Katayun Barmak
- Professor Michael Bergman
- Professor Xi Chen
You can find more about my current and past work in the research section.
Teaching
I like to master hard and interesting classes, and pass my knowledge to others.
- Current: Embedded Systems (CSEE 4840)
- I am also the ODS notetaker for a variety of CSEE courses.
- 2025: Head TA of Fundies (see my study guides)
- 2022-2024: Think Tank drop-in tutor at Simon’s Rock, where I helped students across a range of STEM courses
Personal
I love:
- Coding, electronics, and math.
- Long drives or bus/subway rides, doing nothing
- Mastering difficult material
- Writing and archiving my journey, just like this website.
